Underestimating Sarah Palin is a mistake that many on the American Left are likely to make. With her warm smile and natural ability to speak to a crowd, she appears anything but intimidating. However, I would warn her attackers that this is a woman with a depth of character that transcends politics - it is who she is.
I have friends in the Law Enforcement and Special Ops communities, including some Navy SEALs, and despite their very different personalities, the one overriding trait they all share is an absolute refusal to back down, no matter what the odds.
Sarah Palin has exhibited this kind of tenacity since she was a child. As a young girl she played sports with a ferocity that earned her the nickname "Sarah Barracuda." She once finished a basketball game (scoring the winning point) with a fracture.
And she truly is "as tough as nails" in other ways as well. Remember that Sarah was moose hunting in Alaska with her father when Barak Obama was lounging around beaches in Hawaii. I have yet to hear if Obama has ever even fired a gun in his life, let alone while trekking in the wilderness.
This is not about Sarah Palin's executive abilities - that is a discussion for another day. What I am suggesting is that, like John McCain, she clearly has the incredible strength of character we ache to see in our leaders, but seldom do.
And I can't wait until she has her first real chance to show it in the upcoming campaign.
So, go ahead, make her day...
