You knew it was coming - after the crew of US Air flight 1549 miraculously saved the lives of every single person on board, some of these morons are actually contemplating suing the airline. (I hear John Edwards isn't very busy these days...)
Instead of running to some ambulance chasing attorney, the passengers of Flight 1549 should be kissing the feet of the US Air crew. Hell, I'd send the them a Thank You card on the anniversary of the event every year for the rest of my life.
In the first place, from a purely cold-blooded legal standpoint, the crash was not due to some malfeasance on the part of the airline, aircraft maintenance workers, or the flight crew - the plane hit a flight of birds.
Even in crashes where there is some culpability on the carrier's part, it is disturbing that so many people seem to think that simply walking onto an airplane suddenly makes someone worth millions if they die. The sight of these money-grubbing people (seemingly more than able to ignore there grief long enough to scramble over each another like locusts to cash in on the death of a relative) is more than a little disgusting.
And I've always felt a particular level of disdain for people who were lucky enough to survive a crash who then attempt to get rich over things like "mental distress." My god, you SURVIVED. Thank God. Thank Fate. Thank whomever.
But for anyone on board US Air flight 1549 to contemplate a lawsuit is simply beyond the pale. The airline did nothing to cause the crash. More to the point, due to the skill, courage, and training of the flight crew that day, everyone survived. EVERYONE. And they are now going to use such a remarkable event as a way to get rich?
Despicable.
