"Healthcare" and Guns - The Coming Clash

A friend of mine has two small children with a touch of the flu, so he recently took them to the doctor. During the exam, the kids were asked if "there are guns in the home." Since such a question hardly had anything to do with their coughing and runny noses, he was taken aback somewhat. Thankfully, before his kids could answer, he replied "Doctor, I don't think that is any of your business."

He's not alone. Across the country, doctors, especially Pediatricians, are asking such questions on a regular basis. But you might wonder where this intrusive prying started. Some years back, anti-gun groups like the Brady Campaign, the Joyce Foundation, and others, began flooding medical organizations with bogus "research" about the supposed danger to children of keeping firearms at home.

In reality, the number of gun accidents involving children is so small (a few dozen each year) that your children are 100 TIMES more likely to drown in a friend's swimming pool than die in a home where guns are kept. But even if such claims were true the proper outlet for such safety-related information would be something like the National Safety Council, not the medical profession.

But this is yet another element in the growing movement by the far Left in America to make just about EVERYTHING that might cause harm to anyone, anywhere, anytime into a "medical" or "healthcare" issue.  It is part of their larger goal of taking increasing control over every aspect of your private behavior.

The liberal fascists have found that if they can somehow use the argument that "the rest of us are paying" for whatever behavior you engage in (from smoking, to eating fatty foods, to riding your bicycle without a helmet) they they have a "right" to control your behavior.

Adding gun ownership to the list is just a "two-for" - the Left has always hated guns anyway, so if they can use the "danger-to-health" canard to further erode your ability to own firearms, it will be just fine with them.

Now ask yourself, just what do you think will be the next logical step when "guns in the home" are declared a "health hazard" - and, God forbid, the majority of Americans have been sucked into Obama's vision of national health insurance, with "the government" paying your medical bills...
