If you do not understand the threat to your liberty posed by having the Environmental Protection Agency declare carbon dioxide a "dangerous pollutant" then you are either not paying attention, or you are ignoring history.
Put aside for the moment that CO2 is not a pollutant at all - it is a critical component of all life on earth, humans included. Plants use CO2 to convert sunlight into energy, and in the process releasing...oxygen, a substance that most human beings find rather useful. No CO2, no plants. No plants, no oxygen. No oxygen...got it?
But there is a much larger issue to consider - giving unlimited power to an unelected (and uncontrolled) bunch of government bureaucrats is a prescription for tyranny. Like the rapidly multiplying "czars" that now infest the Obama administration, these agencies are not subject to any oversight, and history has shown that their natural inclination is to amass more and more power.
It works like this - an agency is given some sort of very generalized charter, like "protecting workers" (OSHA) or "protecting the environment" (EPA). Sounds noble, right? But here's the rub - once tasked with their respective "duties" they then get to define (and more ominously) redefine what constitutes those duties. And you can't do a thing about it.
It is like giving the NFL officials who referee football games the authority to change the rules of the game - at any time. And neither the players nor the team owners have any recourse. For example, suppose the refs were to decide that it's not "fair" that some teams have better running backs than others, so they decide to create a new rule that limits the maximum number of yards a player can accrue in a single game. Don't like it? Tough.
Not surprisingly, the EPA's decision just happens to come precisely at a time when evidence is piling up that the Earth not warming at all - it has been cooling for more than 10 years. Add to that the recent "climate-gate" scandal which revealed that the entire "climate crisis" has been fabricated by a bunch of left-wing fascists bent on reducing American prosperity. Meanwhile, polls of likely voters show that the number of people who still believe in "global warming" is falling faster than the temperature in Minnesota.
So, Obama and the "global warming" scammers see the prospects of getting their "Cap and Trade" legislation through the Congress fading rapidly. What to do? No problem - just ignore the will of the people, do an end run around the legislative process, and have the snotty little government toadies at the EPA declare that CO2 is "harmful to humans." Take that, you ignorant peasants.
This is much bigger than you think - once an agency like the EPA has the sweeping authority to declare ANY substance a "pollutant" then just about everything you do can be regulated, taxed, and controlled. And life as you know it will be altered forever - and not for the better. Energy costs will skyrocket. Food prices will soar. Millions of American jobs will be lost. And personal freedom and liberty will become a distant memory.
2010 cannot come too soon...
